Juneau Maritime Center
Indented as an architectural anchor for public-use development of the area under the Juneau-Douglas Bridge, the proposed Maritime Center will house offices on the upper floors for CBJ Docks & Harbors and the Alaska Marine Exchange, while leaving the ground floor open as a public maritime museum and interpretive center.
The importance of the function of the Marine Exchange cannot be overstated; therefore, its facility must be reliable and functional. The activities of the Marine Exchange will be highlighted with the architecture, and the massing of the building is intended to reference a lighthouse beacon without taking its literal form.
The public ground floor, in general, will open to the surrounding park (part of the planned Downtown Seawalk). Two prominent features on the public space of the building are the situation room and a real-time display of the Exchange's primary vessel tracking screen.
