Dave Hurley, AIA

Dave is a Principal Architect and Partner at NorthWind Architects. He grew up in Oregon and attended the University of Oregon, graduating in 1994 with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture. Through college Dave worked as a carpenter. Prior to graduation, he started a small design-build and general contracting company in Portland, Oregon. The company grew steadily from 1993 through 2000 when, wanting to focus his attention on the practice of Architecture, Dave took a position with Ankrom Moisan Associated Architects. There he worked as a Project Manager, Design Architect and Construction Administrator on projects including planning studies, multi family developments, medical facilities and luxury spas.

In 2005, Dave joined two local colleagues to form what eventually became Architecture Office, LLC. In 2007, Dave began working with Architects Without Borders to develop a school campus in Ethiopia. In 2009, Dave expanded his work to Alaska where he provided Construction Administration services to the City and Borough of Juneau working with Wilson Engineering. In the summer of 2010, NorthWind Architects invited Dave to join the firm as a partner, allowing him to combine the efforts of NorthWind and Architecture Office. He now works in both Alaska and Oregon.

When not practicing Architecture, Dave spends time with his family and occasionally goes on tour with his band which he says is really just an excuse to ride around in an RV and drink bourbon on week nights. Dave’s work has been published in Oregon and includes the winner of the AIA Merit Award for the Muslim Community Center of Portland, designed by Architecture Office in 2009-2010.
