Shannon Crossley

Shannon, a third generation Alaskan, initially worked at Northwind Architects as a summer intern periodically from 2005-2011 and starting in 2018 returned for a full-time position. She attended the University of Oregon for a Bachelor of Architecture and minor in Historic Preservation, and the University of Bath for a master’s degree in the Conservation of Historic Buildings. She has completed her internship and now will begin the process to become a licensed architect.

Shannon’s professional interests include vernacular architecture, environmentally sustainable design, preservation of historic buildings, and the connection between the design and construction of a building. She was heavily involved with a student led program at U of O called DesignBridge that built small projects students designed in studio. She also owned a Design/Build general contracting company in Washington State with her husband.

Shannon’s Great Grandparents moved to Treadwell in 1911 to work in the mining community, and her family has been here ever since. She decided to return to Alaska to get involved with the community and the built environment of her home town. Shannon is committed to preserving Alaska’s unique culture and resourcefulness in our historic structures, using mindful adaptive reuse practices to maintain our historic building’s relevance to the community, and using her knowledge of historic architecture to design sustainable new buildings.

In her down time, Shannon enjoys hiking all over Juneau’s beautiful mountain ranges with her husband and black lab, exploring the local mine ruins and salmon fishing.
