Haines Tlingit Park Pavilion
Haines, ak
The Haines Tlingit Park Pavilion was designed by NorthWind Architects and constructed by the Chilkat Custom Contractors for the Chilkoot Indian Association. The primary use of the space was to serve as a community gathering space for ceremony, dance, and instruction. The use of a traditional clan house form was to rely on traditional Tlingit forms that capture the essence of a community. Traditional materials of cedar planks for the siding and corner posts connect the pavilion directly to the historic clan houses that used to stand in this region. The form was adapted to have wall panels that open on either side of the structure to allow for easy community access, daylighting, and air movement. Inside is a stage with ADA access perfect for dances and classes that the whole community can participate in.
