Gastineau Elementary is a 45,000 square foot public school originally built in 1956. NorthWind completed the facility condition assessment in 2005, which in turn led to building envelope upgrades including roof repairs and window replacement in 2006 and 2007.

In the summer of 2009, NorthWind was selected to provide planning and design services for the balance of the needed school renovation. The City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) advertised for construction bids in December 2010.

NorthWind provided programming and planning services, and lead the consultant team through design and construction phases. Gastineau Elementary school is designed to meet LEED certification requirements. Total construction cost: $11.5M. NorthWind also provided construction administration and special inspection services for this project.
