In the summer of 2006 NorthWind Architects was selected by the City and Borough of Juneau and the Juneau School District to undertake the planning and project design for the renovation of this 1960 vintage school. Glacier Valley is a Title I school serving some of the poorest neighborhoods in Juneau. This single story facility serves a population of 400 students. The renovation work was designed so that the operation of the school would not be disrupted through the multiple-year phased construction.

Glacier Valley Elementary school was designed to meet LEED certification requirements (status pending), and was completed meeting all school district funding and schedule goals.
