Though developed over decades to meet changing needs of the community and tourism industry, Marine Park’s current form does not support its role as the city’s most important outdoor civic space. Imminent development of the adjacent ship berths and waterfront pedestrian path, along which Marine Park is the most significant node, opened the possibility of the park’s redesign.

NorthWind embraced this opportunity at the community level by conducting open design workshops, and on a professional level by seeking a place with the consultant team undertaking this work. NorthWind has emphasized the importance of recognizing the park’s critical function as the city’s only urban, public gathering space. The design should be informed by successful urban public spaces around the world.
