Main Street Canopies

Juneau, ak

The Main Street Canopies project began in 2012 as a focus on the public streetscape and a beautification process of our capital city’s Main Street. Directly connecting the waterfront to the Capitol Building, Main Street itself has both a government and civic nature; the canopies were constructed to be placed between the AOB and the street to emphasize this relationship.

The scale of the canopies themselves are related to the AOB: simple and strong. Warm wood and steel relate to the canopies on the Downtown Transit Center, just down the street. Glass provides transparency for pedestrians walking to enjoy the full scope of views: from mountains to sky to architecture.
